J. W. Coon

Proprietor of a livery, feed and sale stable, Dow City, Iowa, succeeded Thomas Swatman, March 1, 1892, and has since been doing a successful business, carrying a stock of upward of $1,000. Mr. Coon was born in Coberg, Canada, December 16, 1848, son of Benjamin and Hannah (Sinclair) Coon, both of Canadian birth. When he was 2 years old, the family moved to Kane County, Illinois, where he was reared to farm life and educated in the public schools. In 1868, at the age of 20, he came to Crawford County, and located in what is now Paradise Township. In this county, he has since lived with the exception of one year, 1885, spent in the Black Hills, and all this time he has been engaged in general farming. He owns forty acres of land in Harrison County, Iowa. Politically, Mr. Coon is a Democrat. He has rendered efficient services as one of the Road Supervisors in his district. He was married in 1873 to Isabelle Davis, daughter of J. T. and Hannah Davis, early settlers of Crawford County. She was born in Livingston County, Illinois, in 1851. Their only child, J. W., died in infancy.
