George Clapssaddle
George Clapssaddle brought quite a different heritage to Sliver Creek. Like his wife. Cora George was a graduate of Wheaton College in Illinois As a young Farmer in 1881 he burst into his home outside of Wheaton with big news Cora I've bought the feed and delivery barn in town Cora did not take too kindly to the development and she told George as much They debated hotly for a few minutes and then Cora offered her last word. "I tell you George, I'm not going to take my three boys to town '' George had his own ultimatum. "its either that or I'll go west" Cora handled his threat with ease. "Go ahead and go west, but we're going with you" and that was that
The Clapsaddles came to Silver Creek in '82 and before George could think about moving to town they had built up the biggest spread in the township.
Later, though, George did move to town-after the family was grown-and before you could say Clapsaddle he had bought into the Galva State Bank These were "retirement" years for the Clapsaddles, a. word that George rejected He became president of the local telephone company, got ivolved in the lda County Mutual Insurance Company, held down a county office or two and occasionally helped his sons farm when he wasn't busy in Methodist church activities
